"The Colors of Us" by Karen Katz
This is a very cute book that can be used for Black History Month or All About Me Themes. A little girl thinks that the color brown is just brown. Her mom takes her on a walk through the neighborhood to look at all the colors of the people. The colors are all foods like: peach, cinnamon, peanut butter, pizza crust, etc. A fun activity would be to gather all the foods for your kids or students and let them examine the variations of shades and compare their skin to the colors.
